Summary
The Center for Respiratory Virus Research and Response (CRVRR) is seeking a dependable and highly organized temporary Research Assistant to support several research projects focusing on acute illnesses caused by respiratory viruses in a hospital setting. The Research Assistant will work under the direction of the Center co-directors Dr. Emily Martin and Dr. Arnold Monto, the Center Manager and study Project Manager, to recruit eligible participants, administer study interviews and complete data collection forms, while ensuring compliance with hospital and ethical guidelines. This position requires high levels of integrity, excellent attention to detail, strong interpersonal skills and empathy to work effectively with a diverse group of individuals under minimal supervision. This is an in person position.
Responsibilities*
- Screen patients for eligibility based on predefined study criteria.
- Approach potential participants within the hospital setting to provide information pertaining to several respiratory virus research projects.
- Enroll eligible participants and obtain informed consent, ensuring participants have a clear understanding of the study procedures, potential risks, and benefits involved.
- Maintain strict adherence to study protocols, ethical guidelines, and regulatory requirements throughout the recruitment process.
- Collect and record study data accurately and timely, maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of participant information.
- Collect, label, store and transport study bio-specimens for clinical studies.
- Assist in general office and administrative tasks, including inventory and the preparation of study materials.
- Perform medical chart reviews.
- Maintain effective communication and collaboration with research and hospital staff to ensure seamless data collection and reporting.
- Assist with research related duties as needed.
Required Qualifications*
- Prior experience in clinical research and/or participant recruitment preferred. Alternatively, prior experience assisting with healthcare visits and/or patient care.
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to effectively communicate with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to work independently, demonstrating strong ability to prioritize tasks and problem solve.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Compassionate and empathetic when interacting with hospitalized participants and their families.
- Ability to adhere to established procedures and maintain patient/participant confidentiality.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills including, data entry, Google Suite products, email and Microsoft products.
